In 1989, he switched to the Department of Human Biology, where he investigated bioregulatory aspects of nutrients and non-nutrients, first as associate professor of fatty acid ester nutritional biochemistry, and then as professor of experimental nutrition. In 1999, he joined the Nutrition and Toxicology Research Institute at Maastricht University. Hornstra studied medicine at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and the State fatty acid ester University of Leiden, where he graduated fatty acid ester cum laude. He received professional training in experimental nutrition at Unilever Research Laboratories in Vlaardingen. He obtained his medical degree at Maastricht University with a thesis on "Dietary Fats and Arterial Thrombosis." |
