| This served as a fecal marker, which, in addition nutrition to the time and date recorded on each sample, permitted the assignment of feces to control and chitosan 4-day pools for subsequent analysis. On days 6, 7, 8, and 9, volunteers consumed two capsules of Absorbitol fat binder, containing 900 mg chitosan complex per two capsules, taken as directed with 8 oz of water 30 minutes before each of the five meals on each day. The fat content of control and chitosan fecal pools nutrition was analyzed using the gravimetric modification of the Van de Kamer method (8) (9) nutrition . This analysis was performed by the National Institutes of Health–funded Clinical Nutrition Research Unit Assessment Laboratory at the University of California, Davis. Diet plans were designed individually for each volunteer. All diet plans consisted of five meals per day, each of which contained at least 15 g of fat. |
